サクラメントのホテルを後に11時間かけてポートランドへ。
途中遅めの昼ご飯を「チキンとパイ」の店でとる。私はベジタリアンサンドイッチを注文。中にアボカドペーストが入ってた！ぎゃー、私はなぜか旅先でアボカドを食べると調子悪くなる。なのでそこを避けて食べた。写真はえっちゃんが注文したイチゴパイ。

バンの中で爆睡し、夜9時前ポートランド到着。ホテル近くの日本料理店にてプチ打ち上げ。このツアーのショーも余すところ後4回となったので。

翌日、夕方までフリーなので近くへ買い物に行った。たくさんのお店を見たけど欲しい物は何もなかった。(;-_-+

Eleven hour journey to Portland, OR from Sacramento. We had late lunch at “Chicken and pie” restaurant on the way. I ordered a veggie sandwich to find avocado paste there. I get sick every time I have an avocado while traveling though I don’t know why. So I ate that avoiding the paste. This picture is a strawberry pie that Etchan ordered.

Got plenty of sleep in a van on the way and arrived at Portland before 9:00 p.m. Hold a “petit” closing party at a Japanese restaurant near a hotel. As we had only four live gigs remained for this tour.
Next day, I spent free time in shopping till that evening. There was nothing special to buy for me although I did some window-shopping.

500回記念ライブ！＼(~o~)／
アツコは熱があるのでサウンドチェックなしで会場へ。ここサンノゼの会場は前回も来た所。ステージで500回目のライブだと言ったら大きな喝采が起きた。すこぶるいい雰囲気の中、アンコール時、チョコバーをお客さんに配った。1000回記念ライブにはまた戻って来たいなど言いつつ…。

翌日サクラメントに移動し、ホテル内のメキシカンレストランで夕食。その後サウンドチェックなしで会場へ。アツコの熱もようやく治まりつつある。が私は何だかお腹が痛い。この前もメキシカン食べた後そうなったんだよな。日本にいるときは何ともないのにな。色々薬を飲んで何とか治ってライブは無事終了。ここの会場は小さくてアットホームな感じが難波の「ベアーズ」を彷彿させた。

そして今日、このツアー最後の長距離移動、サクラメントからポートランドへ。

It’s the 500th anniversary of our live gig the day before yesterday. We went to the venue without our sound check as Atsuko had still fever. We came here previously at the venue in San Jose the last time. Received an ovation from the audience when I told them about the 500th anniversary. We served chocolate bars in an atmosphere of friendliness when we got an encore saying that we want to come back there at the 1000th anniversary gig.

The next day, we moved to Sacramento and had dinner at a Mexican restaurant of a hotel. Went to the venue without our sound check. Atsuko was getting better though I had a stomachache. I had it last time when I had Mexican foods although I’m ok when I had Mexican in Japan. I took many kinds of medicine and got well to finish the gig. This venue reminded me of the Bears, the venue in Nanba Osaka, because it’s small but a homey atmosphere.

And today was the last long-distance moving of this tour from Sacramento to Portland. This picture shows Sean and Robin (from right), our tour crew, who are from Toronto, Canada.

L.A.のライブ終了後、4時間睡眠をとり、朝8時半San Franciscoへ出発。
約七時間半で到着。ホテルに入り一休みの後会場へ。今日のホテルはロッケンロールホテルとして有名な宿。何度か泊まった事があって、夏場に来たときは中庭のプールで泳いだこともあるが今回はまだ寒い。でも泳いでる人もいる。さむー。

ライブはまたまた大盛況。大きな会場に400から500人は見にきてくれていた。みなさん、ありがとう。アツコはL.A.辺りから風邪気味だったがー。

そして今日はSan Joseのライブ。サウンドチェックなしなので夜まで休息タイム。熱のあるアツコはホテルに留まり、私とえっちゃんはJapan Townで日本食を食べたり、友達のJoe（Decibels）に車に乗せてもらって街を見せてもらったりした。

昔からのチョコレート工場のギラデリースクエアでみんなでホットチョコレートも飲んだ。そして宿に戻り準備してSan Joseのライブへ向かう。今夜はナイフの500回記念ライブ。アツコはまだ熱がある。なんとか早く良くなって欲しい…。

After the gig in L.A., slept for four hours and left for San Francisco at 8:30 a.m. Took seven hours and a half to get there in San Francisco. Got some rest at a hotel and went to the venue. The accommodations there are well known as a “rock ‘n’ roll hotel”. We have stayed there several times and swam in the pool of the courtyard in the summertime. It’s too cold to swim now though some people were swimming. Chilly…

The live gig in S.F. was also very successful. There were over 400 or 500 people in the large venue. Thank you everybody. Atsuko have been getting a cold when we were in L.A.

And today we are going to play in San Jose today. We could have a rest thru this evening as we didn’t have a plan to check our sound before the gig. Atsuko, who had fever, stayed at a hotel, and Etchan and I had Japanese foods at Japan Town and Joe (Decibels), who is one of my friends, gave us a ride around the city.

We had hot chocolate at Ghirardeli Square, the chocolate factory. Went back to our hotel, got prepared and left for the venue in San Jose. It’s 500th anniversary live gig for the Shonen Knife today. Atsuko has still fever. I want her to get well as soon as possible.

Santa Anaの会場はシアタータイプ。半円形の周りがボックス席、真ん中が立ち見席。とても素敵な会場。楽屋もいい。音響システムも良かったので演奏しやすかった。
お客さんのレスポンスもサイコー。前にも来た会場だけど記憶になかった！ここではライブのポスターを作ってくれていた。日本アニメ風。すばらしい。Awesome!ライブ終了後Los Angelesに移動。

次の日、つまり昨日は夕方までフリー。友達と会ったり、休息したり、皆それぞれに行動した。
私は昼過ぎに弦を張り替えた後、ひとりで、最近出来たというファーマーズマーケット横のショッピングモールGROVEへタクシーに乗ってゴー。ものすごく賑わってたけど、別段欲しいものはなかった。(−＿−メ)隣のファーマーズマーケット（写真）でビタミン補充の為、バナナとイチゴを購入。こちらのイチゴは全然甘くないが…。かなりウロウロ見て回った後、タクシーを呼んでホテルに戻った。お買物堪能。
こちらでは流しのタクシーは無いし、鉄道路線も充実してないので車が無くてはかなり不便。楽しいアドベンチャーだった。

夜のライブは売り切れ、友達もたくさん来てくれてよかった。

A venue in Santa Ana is a kind of a “theater-type”. It’s a semicircular, and there are box seats around it and standing room in the middle of it. So gorgeous! The dressing room is also great. The acoustics of this venue are very good, too. It’s comfortable for us to play there. The audience was also great! The staff of this venue made our poster for our gig here. It’s in the Japanese cartoon style. Awesome! After the gig, we were headed to Los Angeles.

We were free till yesterday’s evening. Each of us spent our time in our own way, meeting friends, or having a break. I went to a brand new shopping mall, GROVE near the farmers market by taxi. It’s crowded with people but I didn’t find anything special to buy there. I bought bananas and strawberries to supplement vitamins at the farmers market (see the photo). Strawberries here are not so sweet actually. Hung around there for a long time, I got back to a hotel by taxi. I enjoyed shopping very much. It’s inconvenient without a car because there are no cruising taxis nor railways round here. It’s a fun adventure for me.

San Diegoのライブもノリノリだった。アンコールの一番最後にギターケーブルが抜けたけど。(;^_^A

今日は少し早起きしてホテル近くのスーパー、TARGETへ。
ここは衣類が充実している。方向音痴な為、逆に行きかけたりしたが何とか到達。時間があまりなかったので、体育館よりもデカい店内を大急ぎで見て回った。買物無事終了、また道がわからなくなってキョロキョロしつつもホテルに帰着。
その後ブランチを日本食レストランで食べた。私が注文したのはなんとモダン焼き！

そして2時間ぐらいでSanta Anaに到着。今サウンドチェックが終わった所。えっちゃん、あっちゃん、わたし、みんな元気デス。ライブは今日を含めてあと9回。がんばるぞー。

The gig in San Diego was also great though a guitar cable was came off from the amp at the last song.(;^_^A

Got up much earlier today to go to supermarket, TARGET, near a hotel. There is many clothes in the store. I almost lost my way there because I have little sense of direction. Checked out the huge store, in a hurry as I had no time. Could enjoy shopping there. Lost my way again and got back to the hotel finally. And then I had brunch at a Japanese restaurant. Guess what I ordered. It’s “Modern-yaki”, a kind of Japanese pizza with soba noodle!

Arrived in Santa Ana after two hour drive. We have just finished our sound check now. Etchan, Atchan and me all are fine! Nine live gigs left including today. We will do our best.

アルバカーキーの後はアリゾナ州チューソン。約10時間のドライブだ。途中山越えした。大陸ならではの壮大な風景。様々に変わる景色を見ながら、爆睡もしながらようやくTUCSON到着。

ライブ会場の隣の家が楽屋。ここは一昨年も来た会場。ライブの方は、最後の曲の時、お客さんが盛り上がってステージに乱入、エフェクトペダルの電源を足に引っ掛けてギターの音が出なくなった。なので電源復活後、お詫びにもう2曲演奏。またまたすごく盛り上がってライブは無事終了。

そしてまた今日、5時間睡眠の後、サンディエゴへ向かう。

Tucson, AZ after Albuquerque, NM. It’s ten hour driving. Crossed mountains on the way. Spectacular views of a continent. Seeing various views (and sometimes sleeping) arrived in Tucson.

A backstage is a house next to the venue. We came here for the first time in two years. One of the audience got into on the stage enthusiastically, stumbled over a wall outlet of the effect pedal there accidentally and a sound of the guitar was cut off. After coming to life again, we played two more songs as in apology for the interruption . The gig came alive again and finished.

After five-hour sleep, we are going to go to San Diego today.
