Sunday, August 13th. The 528th show of Shonen Knife was at Summer Sonic Festival in Osaka 2006.

The venue, Nanko Intex Osaka is the place where I know well because it is the same area with the tennis courts I often play. Our drummer Etsuko came to my house and we left home at 10:20 a.m. Rituko, the bassist, had already at the venue to see shows. After we arrived there, we went to the dressing room. There are dressing rooms for every band. There were sofa, table, drinks, mirror and so on inside. It’s confortable. The next room of us were the Charlatans’. I didn’t know the member’s face, though.

We checked up our stage and merchant area then we ate lunch at catering area. I ate meat sauce spaghetti, salad, grilled vegetables and onion rings. There were candies. I ate candies, chocolate bars and cookies.

Our show time was 2:00 p.m. but I was thinking it was 2:40. I had to round back the minute hand of the clock in my brain 40 minutes. Anyway, playing early is good for me. I can enjoy other bands.

So many audience gathered to our stage called Aqua Stage!!! It was most crowded at our show time. I was so happy to play in front of great number of people. On stage, the low sound was too loud but there was no problem and I did ROCK!!! Etsuko and Ritsuko did their best on stage.

After the show, we were interviewed by Asahi broadcasting TV (channel 6) and FM 802. Then I tried to go to Open Air Stage but I lost the way. I was walking in grass ground. Finally I could reach the stage but it was too hot and I watched the show only 3 minutes. Then went back to the dressing room.

I ate dinner at catering area and went to see Flaming Lips and Daft Punk a little. Then I saw Metalica at the monitor TV at dressing room area. The stage of Flaming Lips were great. It was a fantasy. They used a lot of balloons, dancers, Santa Claus, alien and big hands. Every show was over and we loaded out. Now I can take a few days off.

Anyway, summer music festivals are fun. It’s a season. Ah, I wish it were a fine weather when I went to see Udo Music Festival.

8月13日（日)ナイフ528回目のライブはSummer Sonic大阪会場。

南港インテックス大阪は、わたしがいつも行っているテニスコートに近くて、勝手知ったるエリア。10時20分、えっちゃんと合流して車で会場へGO!りっこは朝からライブを見るということで先に会場入りしていた。まず楽屋入り。インテックスの見本市会場としていつも使われる建物の中にパーテーションを使って、出演バンドの楽屋がしつらえてある。我々の楽屋にもソファーとテーブルがあって、クーラーボックスがあって鏡もあっていい感じ。隣の楽屋はシャーラタンズだった。と言ってもメンバーの顔を知らないのでどの人なのか判別できなかったが。

会場、物販コーナーを下見して昼食はケータリングエリアで。ミートソースのスパゲティー、サラダ、グリル野菜、オニオンリングなど食べた。お菓子もあったのでキャンディー、チョコバー、クッキーを頂きました。あっという間にshow time。出番は2時からだったのに、先日のRock in Japanフェスの時の出番が2時40分で、それと勘違いして今日も2時40分からだろー、と余裕で居たら2時からということが判明、別にあわてることもなかったけど、そこから頭の時計の長針を40分逆に戻した。早く始まる方が、ほかのバンドのライブをたくさん見れていいのだ。

ナイフの出演したAqua Stageにはたくさんのお客さんが来てくれた!!!この日のAqua Stageの中でいちばんたくさんかも！うれちー。ステージ上は低音がグルグル渦巻きになっていたけど、問題なく思う存分ロックしたぜ。えっちゃんもりっこも元気に楽しくロックしてくれた！

ライブの後は朝日放送のインタビューとFM802の収録をした。それからはOpen Airステージを見に行ったけど、途中迷って草むらみたいなところに入っちゃったり。あまりの暑さに3分だけ見て戻ってきた。夕方になって晩御飯をケータリングで頂き、Flaming LipsとDaft Punk少し見て、楽屋に戻りモニター画面でMetalicaを見た。Flaming Lipsのステージでは多くのでっかい風船やらダンサーやらエイリアンやらサンタクロースやら巨大な手やらが出て来てて、ファンタジーの世界やった。最後に機材を積み込み車で帰宅。ふぅー。やっとこれで数日休めるわ。

やっぱり夏は音楽の祭典ロックフェスティバルだね。ああ、ウドーミュージックフェス（大阪）もうちょっとお天気が良かったらなぁ。（ひとりごと）

いつも自分のライブとなるとバタバタしてて写真撮る余裕がなくって、写真はライブ終わって物販コーナーへ行ったときにとったのだー。マフラータオル等、売り切れ続出だった。早いうちにオンラインでも買えるようにしますんでー。

毎日暑くて夜寝るときエアコンをずっとつけているせいか、喉がいがらっぽくなってそこから風邪ひいた。微熱がある。もう、かなわんなぁ。

It’s been very hot and I turn on the air conditioner when I sleep at night. May be because of that, I’ve got a cold. I have a throught ache and have fever. Ah…

数ある夏フェスの中でもナイフのお膝元、大阪で開催されるサマーソニック！しかも初出演！

ナイフが出演したAQUAステージは飲食ブースがステージをぐるりと囲むようなレイアウトでとにかく広かったです..。にも関わらずナイフが演奏を始める頃には沢山の皆さんが集まってくれました！（この日のAQUAステージでは一番の集客だったのでは！？）

曲が進むにつれて会場もヒートアップ！ラストの「ジャイアント・キティ」が終わるまでお客さんがほとんど他へ移動しなかった事が何よりもこの日のステージを語っていたと思います！

明日はサマソニ（大阪）出番はAqua Stage 14:00〜 Yo check it out!!

楽しくガンバリマスっ！

We left our hometown Osaka early in the morning on August 3rd. It was very hot and humid and I swet a lot. I feel unconfortable in a air-conditiond car. But without air-conditioner, I might be steamed like dumplings of dim sum. Whenever I got off from the car, I sweat a lot and said Ahhhhh, it’s too hot! By the way, the color of Udon noodles soup is getting changed around Nagoya. Udon soup in Kansai area is rather clear and north-east to Nagoya, it became dark.

We arrived our destination, Hitachinaka ity, Ibaragi prefecture at 8:30 p.m. We stayed at inn beside the ocean. Since I’m living in a city, I was strongly impressed with the darkness of night at the country. I was surprised about many insects, too.

The next morning, I woke up at 7:30 a.m. as usual. I took a walk to the seashore. Many ships are at anchor at the fishing port and I saw a large number of sea louses. Oh my god!!! I hate them more than cockroaches. Next to the fishing port, there was a sand beach and there were many people enjoying sea-batheing. I don’t like outdoor activities. I can’t swim in the sea. I scare live fish and the touch of seaweed. But the seescape was beautiful so I took pictures.

After I went back to the inn, I rehearsed with our drummer Etsuko and a support bassist Ritsuko. Then we went to the venue. How big the venue was! It was a big national park. Our dressing room was a prefabrication room and it was airconditioned. Very confortable. Right after we put our luggage there, we went to catering tent. I can’t play with hunger. After lunch, Etsuko went to setting the drums. Drummer always need to prepare first.

I felt dizzy after lunch by the heat. A few years ago, I became sunstroke when I was playing tennis. At that time all of my view turned white. I felt like the feeling like that. No, no. Such symptoms were came from spirit. I must not became sunstroke. I had to cheer me up. I said myselfI should keep my mind strong. I took vitamines and amino acid.

Then the show time was coming. Watering my head by my self, I rocked. But on stage, it was a hell of heat. The sun was shining, stage lights were very hot, the black floor of the stage was like a frying pan. My foot in a black sneaker was nearly burned. I watered on my foot and drank water a lot but during the guitar solo part of the song Rubber Band, I bent myself and felt dizzy. Somehow, I recovered and could finish the show.

Thanks to our fantastic audience, we could play safely. After the show, Ritsuko became sunstroke. She didn’t loose conscious but lay down at the backstage. Everybody brought ice to her and made her cool. Then we called nurse. 30 or 40 minutes later, she got well. Including her we went to the catering tent for dinner. Then we went to Tokyo by car.

We arrived in Tokyo at night and stayed one night. On August 5th, we went back to Osaka. We left Tokyo in the morning but the toll expressway around Tokyo got choked so we choose to use regular roads. But anyway, every roads in Tokoy had traffic jam as usual. It took 3 hours to go throuh Tokyo city. Ah, it was Toky’s custom. Oh, no! We couldn’t find restaurants along the road. We were starved on a choked road. Finally we found a pork cutlet restaurant. But it wasn’t air-conditioned. We ate pork cutlet with sweating.

After we got through the traffic jam we had a good drive and arrived in Osaka at night. These three days were the battle with the heat.
ROCK!!!

8月3日早朝、車にて大阪を出発、何もしなくても汗が後から後から出てくる。エアコンの冷気は不自然で居心地悪いが無ければ飲茶の蒸し饅頭みたいになるからなぁ。サービスエリアで車を降りる度に「あっつぅぅぅーーー。」ところで、名古屋を過ぎたあたりからうどんだしの色が変わってくるんだなぁ。

目的地、茨城県ひたちなか海浜公園近くの宿に着いたのは夜8時半。都市生活者のわたしは「ああ、夜ってこんなに暗いんだー」と感心した。しかし、この虫の多さは！

一夜明けて、いつものように7時半にはすっきり目が覚めた。朝の散歩は海岸へ。宿の前の漁港にはたくさんの小船が停泊し、船着場にはおびただしいフナ虫、ギャー!!!ゴキブリより苦手なんだよー。その横には砂浜があって、海水浴の家族連れなどでにぎわっている。わたしはアウトドアが苦手なんで、水着で海には入れないっす。生きてる魚が怖いし、わかめが体に直接触れたら気持ち悪いし、海底がぬるぬるしてたらそれだけでぎゃーぁぁぁぁーーーってことに。だけど、景色がきれいなので写真に収めました。

宿に戻って、ドラムのえっちゃん、サポートベースのりっこと軽く練習していざ会場へ。うぉー、広い立派な公園だぁ。2階建てプレハブの楽屋はエアコンが効いてて快適。でもゆっくりする暇も無く昼食へGO！お腹が減っててはライブできんからね。その後えっちゃんだけ先にセッティングへ。ドラマーはセッティングが大変なんだよね。そのあたりからわたしはなんだかフラフラになってきた。何年か前の夏にテニスやってるとき目の前が真っ白になったことがあるけど、その感覚に近いものがー。いかんいかん、そういう症状って「気」から来るから気をしっかり持たなくちゃー！と自分に言い聞かせて、水分を摂ったり、ビタミンとアミノ酸を摂ったりした。

そして、いざshow time!頭に水をかけながらぶっ飛ばした！でもステージ上は灼熱地獄。太陽熱を前方から浴び、ライトの熱を上と横から浴び、黒い床が吸い込んだ熱を足元から浴び、熱波嵐。私の黒いスニーカーに直射日光が当たって足はやけどしそう。足にも水をかけた。曲間で水分補給するも「Rubber Band」の演奏中、そっくり返ってギターを弾いたら頭から血が引いてクラッ。なんとか持ち直して最後まで突っ走った。

すてきなお客さんのお陰で楽しく無事にライブが済み、バックステージに引っ込んだ後、りっこは軽度ではあったが、熱中症で倒れてしまった。意識はあったけど、ふらふら状態。みんなで氷を運んで冷やしたり、団扇であおいだりしつつ、ナースを呼んだ。しばらくして持ち直して、りっこも含めみんなでケータリングテントへ行き、夕食。そののち東京へGO!

夜に東京着、1泊して大阪へ。朝出発したものの、高速道路が東京から厚木まで混み混みだったので、下の道、これまた渋滞、をとろとろ帰った。渋滞を抜けるのになんと3時間以上かかった。ああ、これが東京の常か。昼ごはんもお店がなくって腹ペコ状態が続いた。やっと見つけた豚カツ屋さん、入ったはいいが、エアコンが全然きいてなくて、汗をだらだらかきながら食べた。ああ、いかんよ、これ。

その後は順調に進んで夜帰阪。暑さとの戦いの3日間だったー。ROCK!!!
