昨日はKISSのDVD観た。ああ、ほんまに芸能っ!興行っ！というところがカッコイイなぁ。自家用飛行機でツアーやもんな。ナイフも自家用飛行機でツアーしたいもんだす。

I watched a DVD of KISS yesterday. It’s cool because it is the world of gorgeous, prfessional showbiz world. They tour in a private air plane. Ah! I hope we, Shonen Knife could tour in a private air plane, too.

今日は久しぶりに雨降った。街なかの葉っぱに雨の水滴がまるで宝石のように輝いていた。

It was rain today after a several days. I saw leaves in town with waterdrops. They shined like jewels.

2006/05/06

今朝、疲れる夢を見た。地下鉄谷町線に乗ってどこかで乗り換えて目的地に行こうと思っているのになかなか着かない。挙句の果てに、目的地の寸前まで行ってたのにまた振り出しに戻っていた。途中で人に道を尋ねたが、教えられた道は階段になっていて、そこに家のないおじさんがいっぱい座っていて通れない状態だった。わたしはひどい方向音痴だが、夢の中までそうなるとは。朝起きたら体がカチコチになっていた。

I had a strange dream. I wanted to go to a destination using Tanimachi-Line of subway in Osaka but I couldn’t reach. Finally I could come near the destination but I couldn’t be there and I came back to the place I started to go. I asked the way to a woman and she showed me the way which was the steps beside me. But many men having no home was sitting on the steps. I have a poor sense of direction but even in my dream, I was just like that. Oh, boy. When I got up, I’ve gotten very tired.

そろそろ712day partyの準備せんといかんわ。他にもやらんといかん事いっぱいだー。テニスしてる場合かっ？ああ、でもこれははずせないなー。

I have to prepare for 712 day party. I’m busy. I have many have to do things. I may have no time to play tennis. No. I can’t stop playing tennis.

ゴールデンウイークに限らず、連休ってなんだか気分がゆっくりするなー。ま、わたしみたいに旅芸人は土日祝も昼も夜も関係ないけど、世間様がお休みムードなので、こっちまでそういう気分になるんだなー。それに、休日は空気がいいねん。走ってる車の数、操業している工場の数が少ないんやろな。平日はすごく大阪市内は空気が汚いから。

Not only Golden Week (Japanese Spring National holidays) but regular holidays, I feel relax on them. Since I am a musician, I don’t take holidays like office workers. But I feel like I have holidays when offices and factorys are off. The air become a little more fresh than week days. Because the number of driving cars and running factorys are few. The air in Osaka is very polluted on weekdays.

まだ寒いなー。でも、真冬よりはましや。だから今のうちに片付けられるものは片付けておこうってーんで、家を片付けてます。バンドやり始めて年末で25年だぜ。こんなに長いことやってると、ナイフＴシャツがどんどんたまってくる。全種類1枚ずつとっていても何十枚にもなるんだな。作った場所も日本、アメリカ、ヨーロッパ、オーストラリアなど色々。

It’s still cold in Osaka but it’s better than winter. It’s a season for tidy up my house. I started to tidy up. In the end of this year, 25 years will have passed from I first form Shonen Knife. Such long carrier produced a lot of merch T-shits. I keep more than one design each. Some were made in Japan, and some are U.S., Europe and Australia.

それに、出演したフェスティバルとかのＴシャツもいっぱいあるんだなー。そんなたくさんのＴシャツ、自分では着ないし、どうしよう。7月の「712 Day Party」のライブ会場でフリマしよかな。誰か欲しい人いるかな。

And I have many rock festival Tees which Shonen Knife attended. I can’t wear so many T-shirts and how shall I do? If I will sell them at our show in July in Tokyo and Osaka, will there anyone like to buy?

先日新しいテニスラケット買っちゃった！自分の好きなモデルが定価の約半額になってたもんでー。これで同じラケット2本持っていることになるんだけど、それぞれのラケットでガットのテンションをきつめと緩めにしてみた。どっちが合うかためしてガッテンしよう。

I bought a new tennis racket, the other day. ’Cos the price of my favorite model became half. Now I have two same rackets. I stringed the gut for the two rackets with different tension. One is tighten and another is a litte loose. I should compare them.

右手小指の骨が欠けていた。3週間ほど前、ちょっとあわてたことがあって、指をドアのくぼみに挟んでぐねった。その後、なんだか痛いなぁと思ってたんだけど、たいした痛みはなかったので、放っておいた。だけど、2週間たっても痛みはとれない。

My right pinkie’s (little finger’s) bone was chipped. Three weeks ago, I got my finger caught in a door and twisted. I didn’t feel pain so much right after the accident but the pain didn’t gone even 2 weeks later.

一番痛く感じるのはパソコンのキーボードを打つときだ。右手の小指はキーボード打つとき最もと言っていいぐらい使うよね。「Backspace」や「Enter」キーは全部そうだもん。ブラインドタッチの場合、小指は短くて小さいけど、中指や薬指よりも持分が多いよね。

I had pain when I hit keyboards of my PC. Right pinkie is an important finger. When I hit Backspace key and Enter key, I use my right pinkie. My right pinkie’s territory is bigger than the ring fingers and the middle fingers.

仕方がないので整形外科へ行ってレントゲン撮ってもらったら、指の骨が欠けてるね、と言われた。どひゃーっ！！でも、日がたっているので固定する必要はなかった。

Then I went to a surgety’s office and X-rayed. The doctor said that my pinkie’s bone was chipped. Oh my Buddha!! I didn’t need to wear a cast because 2 weeks had passed already after injury.

こんな状態でもライブとテニスはできてたから、ま、大した事はなかろう。でも、ギター弾いたり、ラケット持ったりするのには影響ないけど、キーボード打つのは痛いんだなー、まだ。

I could play the guitar on stage and played tennis with injured pinkie and I feel it isn’t a serious thing. But I still feel pain when I hit keyboreds.

教訓、あわてないこと。

I learned by this accident. I shouldn’t get panic.

2006/04/21

本日のラストは我々少年ナイフじゃー。今日のメンバーはドラムはおなじみ、えっちゃん。ベースのアツコは「用事」のため、先週と同じく「電気キャンディー」の律子さんが出てくれた。えっちゃんはいつものごとく超強力グルーヴィードラムを叩いてくれた。ベースの律子さんもナイフのステージ2回目ともなると肩の力も抜け、元気いっぱいに演奏してくれた。わたしもとても楽しく演奏できたっ！ステージの高さがあまりないので、ステージ上にビールケースを置き、その上に時々上がって演奏した。後ろのほうのお客さんにも少しは見えたかな。

Today’s headliner is we, Shonen Knife. Etusko played the drums as usual. She playes powful and groovy drums. For the bass, Atsuko couldn’t appear on an errand, Ritsuko played the bass as a support. It was the second time for her to play with us and she was getting used to. She played cheerfully. I could play with fun! We put boxes on stage and I stepped on it and played. I hope the audience in the back area could see us.

ライブもノリノリでできたし、対バンもステキだったし、フリーマーケットもできたし、ホント楽しかったデス。

I could play with fun, other bands are fun, frea market was fun. I really enjoyed this show.

2006/04/18

2番手はYellow Machine Gun。こちらも女の子3人組み。音楽のジャンルで言うと、スラッシュメタルっちゅうか、そんな感じ。普段は普通の人たちなのに、ステージで演奏を始めると全くの別人になるところがステキ！Yellow Machine Gunは、今わたしが一番好きな日本のバンドの一つです。こんなにいさぎいいバンドってなかなかないよ。メタル好きにはたまりません。わたしもメンバーにしてくらさい。なーんて。はは。

The second band is Yellow Machine Gun. This band is also a three piece all girl’s band. They play slash metal music. They are very friendly people but once they go to stage, they change to very aggressive. I like this gap. Yellow Machine Gun is one of my favorite band in Japan now.

Hey, Yellow Machine Gun, please let me join to the band! Ha Ha!

ライブ前日は、発熱のため十分フリーマーケットコーナーの準備ができなかったので、ライブ当日4月16日は朝から大忙しだった。家中のあっちこっちからフリマに出せそうなものを物色、そして値札付け。でもフリマってお店屋さんごっこみたいで楽しいね。とにかくリサイクルできればー、っちゅう感覚でアレンジしてみました。

The day before our show at Bears in Osaka, Namba, I couldn’t prepare for my frea market coused by the fever. Then I was very busy the day of the show on April 16th. I took my unwanted items from everywhere in my house and put price tags. I like garage sale and frea market. It’s like to play at a store clark and a customer. I gathered my odd things for recycle.

4時ベアーズ入り。サウンドチェックして、みんなで近所に晩御飯食べに行く。小雨模様だったので、遠くへは行けなかった。ベアーズに戻ってフリマの準備して開場。

We arrived at Bears at 4p.m. After sound chck, we went to eat dinner. It was a little rain and we couldn’t go to eat far. Then we went back to Bears and opened our frea market.

1番目は「ニーハオ」。女の子3人組で、赤や緑のカラフルな体操服がトレードマークだ。テツ&トモをテレビであまり見かけなくなった今、あの体操服を着るのは彼女たちだけではないだろうか。なーんて。キテレツヴォーカルにシーケンサーも駆使して、小技のきいたノリのいい音楽。おもちゃの箱をひっくり返したようなかわいさデス。中からでてくるのは中国製ブリキのおもちゃってな感じかな。


The opening band is Ni-Hao. All girl’s three piece band. They wear red, green and blue, very colorful sports wear. Using Using a sequencer and with high-pitched voice, their sound is like Chinese tin toys. Very cute.

I played at Bears in Namba, Osaka yesterday and I sold my unwanted items to recycle at the venue like a garage sale. I sold my autographed tennis racket at 1000yen. At BBS, a guy who bought is asking that was it mine? And he says that it was too cheap. Anyway, it was mine. When I started to play tennis I bought it and used.

ラケット買ってくださってありがとう！

ベアーズの物販会場で売っていたテニスラケットは２つともわたしのものです。テニス始めたころに買ったもの。でも、ほとんど使ってません。そのあとテニスを一旦やらなくなって、後にまた始めたときは、別のラケットを買ったからです。でも、グリップテープも巻きたてで、いつでも使える状態です。へへ。
暖かくなってきたので、野外でテニスなどいかがでしょうか。

わたしのフリマコーナーはいつもリサイクル目的ですので、高い値段はつけないようにしとります。へへ。

We’ll play at a club called Bears in Osaka. We’ll play with Yellow Machinegun and Nei-Haw. Both are female bands. I’m looking foward to play with them.

By the way, I’m having a fever from yesterday. It’s not serious but I have to recover until tomorrow. I’ll take ginger tea.

あしたはベアーズでライブだ。イエローマシンガンとニーハオと一緒に出ます。どちらも女の子バンド。楽しみだにゃー。

ところで、わたし、昨夜から発熱中。微熱だから大した事はないけど、明日までに治さなきゃ。生姜湯飲むぞ。

By the way, I remember that when I played in Oska on new year’s eve, I had a high fever. The show was presented by FM802 and DJ Marky did count down 0:00a.m. of the new year in the middle of our show.

そう言えば、かつて大晦日カウントダウンライブを大阪でやったとき38度以上の熱を出してライブしてたな。FM802のイベントで、DJのマーキーさんがライブの途中、午前零時になったらカウントダウンするって企画だった。

I was lying down on a table at backstage until show time. Once I went to stage, I could play but when the time of count down, I had to keep standing on stage. At that time I was nealy to fall down. I felt dizzy and I put my hands on my waist and kept balance. Ah, entertainer should keep on rocking always.

出演前まで楽屋で机の上に横になってて、出番になって演奏しだしたら何とか持ちこたえたが、マーキーさんがカウントダウンしてる間は演奏せずにステージに立ってたんだけど、倒れそうになってたな。フラフラ状態。手を腰に当ててバランスとって立ってた。でも、芸人だから仕方ないね。へへ。

北米盤「GENKI SHOCK!」のリリースに伴い、アメリカのプレスからインタビューを受けマスタ。インタビューってe-mailでやったり、電話でやったりするんスけど、英語で難しい質問に答えるのはなかなか苦労しやす。何でかというと米国と日本のミュージックビジネスの違いから説明しなくちゃならなかったり、はたまた風習の違いまで一から説明しないといけない時も出てくるから。

I’ve got some interviews from U.S. press. I was interviewed through e-mail and phone ’cos I’m livin in Osaka. It’s hard for me to answer to difficult questions. Because I sometimes have to explain from very basic things like the difference between Japanese music business and that of America. And I sometimes have to explain about Japanese customs and tradition.

こうなってくると英語だけの問題じゃないよな。で、いっぱい英作文して、電子辞書を何べんも引いてるうちに時間が矢のように過ぎて行って…、その苦労の結晶をみてみてね。

I need not only English ability but knowledge. I consult my electronic dictionary thousands of times and time flies. Please see my bear fruit.

4月9日、日曜。京大西部講堂でライブ。京都市内の観光渋滞を見越して通常より早く家を出たら早く着いちゃったので、先にご飯を食べようとお店に入ったら、注文の品を持ってくるのがすごーーーーーく遅くて、結局変なところで時間を食っちゃいました。でも、昼食の付け合せの「茄子のお漬物」がサイコーにおいしかった。京都のお漬物っておいしいにゃー。

Sunday, April 9th. I had a show at Kyoto University’s west-hall. I assumed that we’ll get a traffic jam in the city of Kyoto then I left my house earlire than usual. But we arrived to Kyoto a little early so we dropped in a restaurant. At the restaurant, it took very very very long to serve our order. I wasted time! Anyway, eggplant pickles were so delicious. Kyoto is famous for pickles.

2時過ぎに現地到着。ああ、この雰囲気や。ヒッピーな雰囲気！京大西部講堂周辺には昔からヒッピーの匂いが漂ってんねんなー。San FranciscoのHaight-AshburyかAustraliaのByron Bayに居る気分か、Greatful Deadのコンサート会場に居る気分か？なんて感じながら、peaceってな気分になった。大阪と比べると京都は空気がいい。何べんも深呼吸して空気の吸い貯めしといた。

We arrived the Kyoto University hall around 2 o’clock. Ah, the atmospher is just like hippie town. It’s like Haight-Ashbury of San Franciso, Byron Bay in Australia or Greatful Dead concert, isn’t it? I feltpeace. Compare to the air of Osaka, its of Kyoto is very fresh. I tried to keep fresh air in my lung.

あっという間に出番になって、持ち時間の30分思い切り炸裂！そう、今日のライブのメンバーは、ドラムはおなじみ、えっちゃん。パワフルなドラムを叩いてくれました。ベースはアツコの助っ人、りつこさん。初めてのステージだったけど、バックボーカルもがんばってくれました。

Time passed very soon and we rocked on stage. Today’s members are Etsuko, the drummer. She played groovy, powerful drums. Ritsuko played the bass as a support for Atsuko. She sang backing vocal, too. Everybody rocked!

衣装は、真奈ちゃん追悼イベントということで彼女と一緒に演奏したときによく着ていた「ペイズリー」にしました。偶然だけど、ペイズリーってのも何となくヒッピーな感じだね。

We wore paisley stage costumes. Today’s concert is mourned for our fomer support drummer, Mana. We often wore it when we played with her. By the way, Paisley havs hippie feeling, I think.

え、なに？アツコ欠席の理由？はは。pregnantじゃないよー。がはは。7月にはわかるだろう。きっと。また、追ってお知らせできると思います。すみません。

Huuuh? Why Atsuko absented from the show? No pregnant. Don’t worry. Ha ha! I may tell you in July.

昔、当時のベースだったみちえさんが盲腸で大阪とNew Zealand　のライブ欠席したことあったなー、なんて思い出します。そのときは、マネージャーがベース弾きました。はは。NZでは、一緒に出演していたLemonheadsのEvanが「ライブ、よかったよー。」って褒めてくれました。へへ。

I remember. Once, our former bassist Michie couldn’t show up on stage in Osaka and New Zealand because of the appendix. At that time our manager played the bass and after the show in NZ, Evan from Lemonheads admire his play.

話は戻って、ライブの後は西部講堂前の模擬店で飲み物飲んだり、DMBQのフリーマーケットコーナーを見たり、お友達としゃべったりしてました。お天気がサイコーに良かったので、楽しさもサイコーだったにゃー。主催者のみなさまに感謝いたします。

After the show, I ate and drink, chatted with my friends and saw DMBQ’s frea market. It was a fine weather and I felt fine, too. Thank you very much for the hosts of the concert.
