ホテルで朝食後、ポスターにサイン等バンド業務。

After breakfast, I worked for the band like signing on the posters.

昼ご飯は部屋の電子レンジで素麺を茹で食べました。アメリカのホテルは電子レンジがお部屋にあって助かります！
その後、ツアークルーのAnthonyの迎えで会場へ。今回のツアークルーは去年と同じメンバー、サウンド担当はJam、ステージマネージャーはAnthonyです。とても良い人たちで助かっています。
今回のツアーはオーストラリアのレジェンドバンドMen at Work、アメリカの渋かっこいいバンドToad the Wet SprocketとShonen Knifeの3バンドのツアーです。そして会場は野外。毎日がロックフェスみたい。

I boiled some Somen Noodles in my room’s microwave for lunch. Microwave in a hotel room is so helpful. Usually hotel rooms prepared microwave in the US.

Then Anthony, our tour crew picked us up to head to the venue. The crew are the same team as last year. Jam is handling the sound and Anthony is the stage manager. They are wonderful people and I’m grateful for their help. This tour features three bands Men at Work, the legendary great band from Australia, Toad the Wet Sprocket, the cool band from the US and Shonen Knife.

The venues are outside. It looks like Rock Festival everyday.

会場に入るとそれぞれのバンドのメンバーがおられ、あいさつしました。Men at Workの中心人物、Colin Hayはじめ、みなさん大変おだやかで慈愛に満ちた方々でした。超メジャーなのにすばらしい。安心するわ。
機材スタッフの人数もたくさんやし、ケータリングもあるし、すごい。皆てきぱき働いています。
会場には警察や消防の車も待機して万全の体制。大きなイベントがあったらいつもそうなのかな。すごい。
楽屋はこちら。体育館みたい。外は大阪の夏と同じぐらい暑くて湿気がありますが、室内は寒い。エアコンの設定は華氏69度。摂氏20.5度ぐらい。

After entering the venue, I met the members of the bands and exchanged greetings. Everyone including Colin Hay, the key person of Men at Work was incredibly gentle and kind hearted. It’s wonderful to see such a big stars act that way. It puts me at ease. The scale of the operation is impressive with a large crew of equipment staff and full catering services. Everyone is working efficiently.

 Police and fire vehicles are standing by at the venue, ensuring everything is fully covered. I wonder if this is standard practice for major events? It’s quite something. Here is the dressing room; it looks like a gymnasium. While it’s hot and humid outside—just like an Osaka summer—it’s cold indoors. The air conditioning is set to 69°F, or about 20.5°C.

サウンドチェックをしてケータリングで鶏肉のグリルや野菜サラダを食べました。写真は撮り忘れ。
その後ライブで30分セットを披露しました。お客さんがまた優しくてフレンドリーでSweet Candy Power でのキャンディーコールもしていただきました。少年ナイフを見たのが初めての方が大半だと思いますが、ほんとに良い雰囲気の中ライブさせてもらいました。

After the soundcheck, I had some grilled chicken and a vegetable salad from the catering—though I forgot to take a photo. Then, we performed a 30-minute set. The audience was so kind and friendly. They even joined in on the “candy call” during “Sweet Candy Power.” I imagine most people there were seeing Shonen Knife for the first time, but the atmosphere was truly wonderful, making it a great show for us.

ライブ後グッズコーナーでサイン会を開催。みよこさんが暑い中、店番していただいて恐縮です。たくさんお客さんが来てくださいました。ありがとう！
その後、Toad the Wet Sprocketが1時間演奏し、我々は再びグッズコーナーへ。その後Men at Workが75分演奏し、出し物終了。

We held an autograph session at the merchandise booth after our set. I’m so grateful to Miyoko for manning the stall in the heat. We had a great turnout—thank you! After that, Toad the Wet Sprocket played for an hour, and we headed back to the merchandise booth. Then, Men at Work performed for 75 minutes, bringing the show to a close.

座席指定でお客さんもゆったり、フードトラックで飲食して、音楽を聴いて楽しんでおられる様子でした。フローズンマルガリータとかおいしそうなお酒も売っていました。買ってないけど。
午後11時過ぎに宿に帰り、シャワーを浴びて就寝。蚊に刺されたり、汗だくになったりましたが、ともかく1日目が終わってほっとしました。

With reserved seating, the crowd seemed relaxed, enjoying food and drinks from the food trucks and listening to the music. They were selling appetizing drinks like frozen margaritas. I didn’t buy any myself, though.

I returned to my accommodation just after 11:00 PM, took a shower, and went to bed. I had been bitten by mosquitoes and was drenched in sweat, but I was relieved that the first day was finally over.
